Project Get Outdoors (Project GO) was founded in 2005 as a response to Richard Louv's book, "Last Child in the Woods; Saving our Children from Nature-deficit Disorder." The 501c3 organization works to facilitate outdoor experiences that foster healthy youth development and increase environmental stewardship behaviors.
In 2024, Project GO began working on a project to interview descendants of abolitionists who lived in Minnesota prior to the Civil War. The long-term goal of this project is to work with local county historical societies and cemetery associations to create a Freedom Trail highlighting the stories of these early civil rights activists and their final resting places, using history as a bridge to connect students and others to the land.
