The mission of the St. Croix Watershed Research Station, the environmental research station of the Science Museum of Minnesota located on the St. Croix River just south of Marine on St. Croix, Minnesota, is to foster a better understanding of the ecological systems of the St. Croix River basin and watersheds worldwide. Founded in 1989, the station is a center for long-term ecological research studies of land-water interaction. Collections of the J.W.G. Dunn Research Library of the research station include historical items, scientific journals and reference books, agency and government reports on the St. Croix River and watershed maps, photographs, slides and audio visual materials. The collection in the Minnesota Digital Library includes historic maps of the St. Croix and Mississippi rivers and the surrounding areas.
