The Southwest Minnesota State University McFarland Library supports university curriculum by teaching course-integrated library instruction and by providing a learning environment and collections supporting research in various disciplines. The Striegel Archives, named after a retired SMSU librarian, houses materials significant enough to SMSU to merit a permanent place in the library. The largest collection in the Archives documents the history of SMSU administration, classes and student body, including committee minutes, program reviews, photographs, playbills, and oral histories. The Striegel Archives hopes that, through the Minnesota Digital Library, it can inform a wider audience of the university's history from its founding.
