Plymouth Congregational Church, today a lively Christian community, has thrived in the heart of Minneapolis, Minnesota, since its founding in 1857. From its beginnings as a frontier church, Plymouth Church has grown and changed with the city. Throughout its history, the congregation has demonstrated a passion for social outreach, locally and overseas, and valued music and the arts as avenues to the sacred. The Archives of Plymouth Church collects, preserves, organizes, and shares the record of the church’s history. Documents submitted to the Minnesota Digital Library include nineteenth century church records and publications and newsletters that report the involvement of members in World War I. Images include photographs of the first two church buildings that once stood in downtown Minneapolis, the original building at the current location, and buildings on the block that have since been removed as the church expanded.
