The Minnesota Historical Society collections focus on Minnesota people, places, and culture, and on the state’s interaction with the larger society, both national and international. The permanent collections of MNHS, comprised of physical and digital material, are currently organized within these categories: archaeological items, art, state archives, historic properties, manuscripts, maps and atlases, 3D objects, oral history, printed materials, sound recordings, moving images, photographs, and posters.  The Minnesota Historical Society's contributions to the Minnesota Digital Library include Minnesota's original land survey plats, several 19th century atlases and plat books, speeches and other items extolling the state's wealth and prospects, and a contrasting selection of letters and reports that document natural disasters and disaster relief.
