The Historical and Cultural Society of Clay County was established in Moorhead, Minnesota, in 1932 to collect, preserve, and disseminate the history of Clay County. Collections include the Flaten/Wange Glass Plate Negative Collection. The negatives are the work of two photographers, S. P. Wange of Hawley and Ole E. Flaten of Moorhead. The Society has contributed to the Minnesota Digital Library 75 photographs by Flaten of Moorhead street scenes, events and institutions between 1879 and 1929. These include photographs showing steamboats on the Red River, Concordia College and Moorhead State Normal School and the development of Moorhead from a frontier town to a regional commercial and educational center.
