Hennepin Technical College was founded in 1972 when 13 public school districts in the Twin Cities metro area came together to form a new, independent post-secondary school. At its founding, Hennepin Technical College (originally named Suburban Hennepin County Area Vocational Technical Centers-District 287) became the first suburban and largest technical college in the state. Their contributions to the Minnesota Digital Library help to paint the picture of vocational and technical education in Minnesota in the early 1970s. Their Founding Records collection presents a historical perspective of how a college was formed in the late 1960s/early 1970s, and their early staff newsletters give insight into the experiences of faculty teaching on campus in the 1970s.
