The Golden Valley Historical Society (GVHS) was organized in 1974. Its mission is to find, preserve, and disseminate historical knowledge about the city of Golden Valley, Minnesota. GVHS collects photographs, text documents, oral histories, multimedia materials, and three-dimensional objects. In 1997, GVHS acquired the city's oldest church building as a permanent home, where it maintains its archives and collections.
In 2014, GVHS completed a new building addition to house an 1,100 square foot museum exhibit. The Golden Valley History Museum opened its doors to the public in 2018. Each year, GVHS hosts a variety of special events including weddings, speaker presentations, and public programs.
