The Ernest C. Oberholtzer Foundation is a nonprofit private operating foundation based in Minnesota. The organization maintains Ernest Oberholtzer's legacy including his island home, Mallard Island in Rainy Lake, and his archives there. The collections, housed both on the island and at the MN Historical Society, include books, music, photos, and maps. The Foundation supports the historic place and welcomes participants for a dozen weeks each summer—programs in the natural sciences, Ojibwe language and traditions, and the arts. The Oberholtzer Foundation's contribution to the Minnesota Digital Library includes ten selected maps, which "Ober" used either for his own canoe travel, for his wilderness policy development, or to teach others about his explorations.
