The Dorothy Molter Museum preserves and interprets Northwoods wilderness heritage through learning opportunities inspired by Dorothy Molter, the last non-indigenous resident of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness (BWCAW). Utilizing three log cabins moved from Knife Lake and reconstructed in Ely, and a collection of personal belongings, the museum strives to inspire the next generation of northwoods stewards through informational and educational exhibits related to Dorothy's legacy as well as cultural and natural history of the Northwoods. As we continue to remember Dorothy and keep her spirit alive, it is our hope that we all dedicate our lives to live as Dorothy did, in harmony with the environment, with great dignity, courage, helping humankind, and making a significant contribution toward a better world.
