Use the "COMMENT ON THIS ITEM" button to interact with images in Minnesota Reflections.

You may now comment on the images in our Minnesota Reflections collection. We would like you to ask questions and share stories. We designed a wiki site that allows us to provide this resource. The comments feature is completely separate from the information in our database.

How to Comment on an Image

Here's how it works:

  • Visit Minnesota Reflections.
  • Search for items you want to view.
  • When you are looking at an individual photo, document or map, you will see a button in the blue menu bar above the image. The button is red with yellow type.
  • Click on that button and you will go to a wiki page.
  • Type in your comment and follow the directions.

No registration is required. We do ask you to focus your comments on the item in the collection.

Interesting Examples

Since we first offered this opportunity to comment on items, we have had some very interesting participation. Clicking on the following links will take you to two photographs in our collection that people have commented on. Click on the "COMMENT ON THIS ITEM" button to read those comments:

Moderation & Project Background

Our staff monitors these comments. We are discussing processes for letting the contributing organizations know that the public is looking at and writing comments about their collections.

With this project we are attempting to answer several questions that are important to the future of the Minnesota Digital Library, but the most important one for this project is: Will the public be interested in contributing descriptive information to the objects in our Minnesota Reflections collection? So far the answer is yes.

We welcome assistance in spreading the word about this new service. Please announce it widely. If you have comments, suggestions or insights to offer regarding the Social Side of Reflections, please send them to Marian Rengel, MDL Outreach Coordinator.
